ASHRAE and Dell begin to rely more on CFD analysis
The IT industry faces data center cooling challenges that transcend short-term solutions. Technological advancements have led to spiraling energy consumption that cannot be sustained. Industry experts have begun to rethink the way in which cooling is achieved, and that shift in perspective centers on expanding humidity/temperature ranges and the use of CFD analysis to understand airflow. The following excerpts from ASHRAE and Dell demonstrate the significance of this shift in thinking.
EPA Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency, 2007
The United States (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed this report
in response to the request from Congress stated in Public Law 109-431. This report
assesses current trends in energy use and energy costs of data centers and servers in the
U.S. and outlines existing and emerging opportunities for improved energy efficiency. It
provides particular information on the costs of data centers and servers to the federal
government and opportunities for reducing those costs through improved efficiency. It
also makes recommendations for pursuing these energy-efficiency opportunities broadly
across the country through the use of information and incentive-based programs.
"Right from the beginning, we were impressed with the CFD modeling work and how thorough the data gathering processes were. Your installation team was professional, knowledgeable, and was able to install your solution in a timely fashion."
